Scrubs

If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

For 30 years, I wore scrubs. Burgundy. Teal. Prints. Any color. Navy. In nursing school, White.

I can still remember my first day as a CNA. Walking across the hospital parking lot in the cool morning air and thinking, “This… This is the start of my career.”

Before Figs there was Koi (probably still the most comfortable scrub pants ever!)

One of my favourite memories was one of the least well planned events. I don’t know whose bright idea was, certainly not mine. The hospital hosted a on-site scrub sale every four months. The staff would spend hundreds of dollars on scrubs. One particular scrub sale day, they scheduled the hospital-wide staff meetings and announced, at the end of the day, that the hospital would be switching to specific scrub colours for the different departments. As you could imagine, that idea went over like a lead balloon. Perhaps they would’ve had more buy-in if they had made this announcement 1-2 weeks BEFORE the scrub sale so staff could buy the appropriate coloured scrubs. But no, in their infinite wisdom they announced it at the end of the scrub sale.

Now I only wear scrubs when I teach or am scheduled to work as a SANE nurse.
